Atlas Earth

What is Atlas Earth?

Atlas Earth is a United States location-based meta-universe app where you can purchase real-world parcels in a virtual landscape for real money!

Note: This was expanded to Canada on March 12th, 2024 and Australia on May 8th, 2024, with the Canadian chart changed to “International” on the same day Australia released. Many more countries have been released since.

Did you say money? Is this a scam?

No, it’s not a scam! I have personally cashed out several times. However, Atlas Earth has the unfortunate reputation of being a “scam” site because some people decided to put money into this app without looking into it. This guide will help you navigate the pitfalls so that you will not waste your time or money on this app.

What are the cash out options?

Paypal, gift card, ACH to bank account, and donations. There is a $5 minimum and amounts must be in whole numbers.

How much money can I make per month?

Atlas Earth’s official numbers can be found at https://atlasreality.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-atlas-earth/faq/39-why-do-ad-boosts-change-and-how-do-i-see-my-current-boost-rate/. The numbers aren’t completely accurate but provide a rough sketch of what you can expect to make each month.

I’ll cover rent boost and Super Rent Boost later in the guide.

How do I download Atlas Earth?

To download Atlas Earth, select https://r.atlasearth.com/WO6R8noSELb. By using this link, you’ll receive 200 Atlas Bucks for free on your 11th parcel! If you don’t see the referral linkage in settings (top left, select your profile picture area then gear icon), enter this referral code: C8P9LC.

Atlas Bucks, Rent, Parcels, and Super Rent Boost

What are Atlas Bucks?

Atlas Bucks (AB) are the in-app currency used to buy things.

How do I get AB?

There are several ways:

  • Daily login: Select the calendar at the top-right and collect your AB. Requires 3 parcels to use. There is an Explorer’s Club version available for $50 per month. More on that later in the guide.
  • Direct purchase: You can buy AB directly by spending USD.
  • Run ads: Each ad produces 2 AB, with a cool-down period of 20 minutes between ads. Select the “shop” tab at the bottom left corner, then scroll down a little bit. You’ll see it in the same section where you can directly buy AB.

Note: For non-USA, you will receive 1 AB per ad.
  • Diamond wheel: You can collect diamonds within your radius on the map by walking/riding around and tapping on them. To access the wheel, tap the “Hunt” tab in the lower-right, then select “spin wheel” at the top”. You get up to 5 spins per day, with the final two requiring you to run an ad. After your fifth spin, you will see a cool-down timer that expires at midnight in the timezone you were in for your first spin following the update (previously, it was a 24-hour cooldown).
  • Convert rent: You can sell your rent at the exchange rate of $1 for 25 AB. However, you cannot sell AB or diamonds. Occasionally, Atlas Reality hosts special events where you can get 33 AB per $1 of rent.
  • Merchant program: More on this later in the guide.
  • Atlas Travel: More on this later in the guide.
  • Referrals: If you send your friends a referral link, you will receive 10 AB for every parcel purchased with AB. Your friend will receive 200 AB when they own 11 plots of land! Bear in mind that each link/code is good for up to 15 friends. After that, access your referral page to get a fresh code. If you want to claim your free 200 AB, use my referral link at https://r.atlasearth.com/WO6R8noSELb or use code C8P9LC in the settings (top left, select your profile picture area then gear icon).
  • If you register your phone number, Atlas Earth will give you 100 AB.
  • If you agree to receive texts, Atlas Earth will give you 50 AB.
  • Minigame events: More on these later in the guide.
  • Atlas Arcade – Download an app and complete the appropriate task to receive credit. Powered by Playtime.
  • Surveys for Bucks – Powered by CPX Research. Complete surveys for AB. Some surveys give you 1 AB if you disqualify, which will happen VERY frequently.
  • Monthly Challenge. More on that later in the guide.

In addition, you can earn money from other Beer Money sites and apps to fund AB. You can find a list of my favorites in Other Apps.

Finally, Atlas Reality will host promotions to earn AB. See the full schedule at https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/wiki/promotions/.

How do I get parcels?

Each random parcel costs 100 Atlas Bucks to purchase. You get your first random parcel free when starting the app.

To purchase a parcel, on the main screen:

  • At the bottom, select “Buy land”.
  • Select a blinking green square. Squares that have a blue sign on them are owned by other players and are available for purchase.
  • Select “Buy Land”.
  • On the popup screen, confirm that you would like to purchase the selected parcel.
  • You will receive a confirmation window indicating that the land is yours! If you selected an unowned parcel, it will randomly assign a rarity.

In addition, you can purchase a limited-edition legendary parcel upgrade for 2,500 AB to upgrade any parcel (including a legendary) to a premium legendary parcel that has the same rent as a regular legendary.

How many parcels do I need to make $1 per day?

Check the Rent Boost Outcomes chart at https://atlasreality.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-atlas-earth/faq/39-why-do-ad-boosts-change-and-how-do-i-see-my-current-boost-rate/ for $30 per month. That should give you a rough estimate.

Alternatively, you can get 150 parcels for about 60 or so cents per day. That assumes you boost 24/7/365. Again, more on boosting later.

Note: For non-USA, 60 parcels will earn about 23 or so cents per day. Mexico is about 20 per day for 50 parcels.

Finally, this is the wrong question to ask. There are other factors that affect rent, including:

  • Average hours boosted per day
  • Parcels owned
  • Rarity distribution
  • Super Rent Boost (SRB) frequency
  • Badges

I’ll go over all of these in the guide.

How many parcels do I need to make $10 per day?

Somewhere around 40,000 parcels.

Ok fine, how do I make $1 a day?

There you go! That is the right question to ask.

SRB frequency and boosting play a major part in achieving $1 a day. Assuming you boost for 24 hours a day, there are several ways to get there, including:

  • 101 badges, one 32-hour SRB, 875 parcels
  • 101 badges, two 32-hour SRB, 435 parcels
  • 11 badges, one 32-hour SRB, 1100 parcels
  • 11 badges, two 32-hour SRB, 625 parcels
  • 31 badges, two 32-hour SRB, 545 parcels

If you want to play with the numbers, you can use my calculator at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/199E2g1j2oAwkpbV7pkYg8Pqbrae-qyEl5LGE6vOGYu8/edit?usp=sharing. It was originally intended for simulating selling parcels, but you can use it to figure out how to reach $30 a month by changing the parameters.

Note: For non-USA, you’ll need roughly 1000 parcels and 31 badges to achieve $1 a day. Ensure that you select the appropriate country when using the above calculator.

Again, I’ll go over SRB and boosting later in the guide.

You mentioned earlier that I can buy real-world parcels. How does that work?

The United States and International borders are mapped out as several adjacent 30 foot X 30 foot plots of land. Each plot that you own produces a small amount of rent per second with various rarities. The rarity received for each plot is completely random.

What are the rarities, and how much rent do they produce?

There are four rarities: common, rare, epic, and legendary. The odds and rent produced are as follows:

  • Common: 50%, $0.0000000011 per second
  • Rare: 30%, $0.0000000016 per second
  • Epic: 15%, $0.0000000022 per second
  • Legendary: 5%, $0.0000000044 per second

Wow! Those numbers are tiny!

Yes they are for a single plot of land; However, as you acquire more parcels, rent stacks with each other, creating a decent amount of rent per month.

How do I get rarer parcels?

Aside from buying from other players, there is currently no known proven method that will increase your chances of receiving rarer plots. Some people swear by the “minesweeper method”, buying parcels around rarer parcels, however, there is no empirical data that proves this method to be reliable.

How do I sell parcels?

To sell parcels,

  • You must be within the radius of the parcels you intend to sell.
  • At the bottom, select “Buy land”.
  • Select the parcel you intend to sell.
  • Set a price. It must be at least 150 AB.
  • Select “Confirm”.
  • Select “Confirm” again.

Bear in mind that Atlas Earth will take 20% of the proceeds, leaving you with 80% of the sale price.

Legendary parcel upgrades can also be sold.

Wait…that means I can’t sell my common parcels!

Technically you can, IF you can find a buyer, but it doesn’t make financial sense to buy a common for 150 AB when random parcels only cost 100 AB.

You can also upgrade them to Legendary at the cost of 2500 AB.

Can I view my parcels remotely?

No, you must be on location to see your parcels.

I’ve read that you shouldn’t go past 150 parcels. Why is that?

If you look at the Rent Boost Outcomes chart at https://atlasreality.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-atlas-earth/faq/39-why-do-ad-boosts-change-and-how-do-i-see-my-current-boost-rate/, notice that there’s a drop rent from 150 to 151. This is because the rent boost multiplier drops the moment you own 151 parcels, from 30X to 20X.

Note: For non-USA, this is at 60 parcels, where your 61st parcel will drop the booster from 20X to 15X. mexico is at 50 parcels, where your 51st parcel will drop booster from 20X to 15X.

What is the rent boost multiplier?

On the main screen of the app, if you look in the upper-right-hand corner, you will find the booster button. Select the button and run an ad to boost for 1 hour. You can stack up to 6 hours at once.

The booster multiplier depends on how many parcels you own, regardless of rarity. See https://atlasreality.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-atlas-earth/faq/39-why-do-ad-boosts-change-and-how-do-i-see-my-current-boost-rate/ for details.

I looked at the Rent Boost Outcomes page. What is the incentive to buy beyond 150 parcels?

There are three incentives to buy past 150:

  1. Super Rent Boost that increases the boost multiplier for everyone, regardless of parcel count.
  2. Mayor/Governor/President income. I’ll go over this later in the guide when I discuss badges.
  3. In the event that you take a break from the app, passive income from rent increases as you own more parcels.

If you decide to move down the list, use Atlas Earth Calculator to find the breakeven points between booster tiers.

Note: For non-USA, the same concept applies, but for 60 parcels. For Mexico, it is 50 parcels.

What is Super Rent Boost?

Super Rent Boost (SRB) event is an event where all your parcels temporarily convert to 50X normal rent regardless of your current boost multiplier. Atlas Earth will announce the details on their social media pages and on Reddit. This includes:

Your boosted hours will automatically convert to 50X the moment that SRB starts and will revert back to your normal boost multiplier when it ends.

Does Super Rent Boost allow me to buy parcels between tiers?

Why was there an extra week added to SRB?

Atlas Reality intends to release 24 Super Rent Boosts (SRB’s) during the year. There are 52 weeks in the year. Since there are normally two weeks between each SRB, this only accounts for 48 weeks (2 X 24). To account for the other four weeks, Atlas Reality adds a third week between SRB’s, one every 3 months, to account for all 52 weeks during the year.

What is parcel upgrade?

It is a premium option that allows players to upgrade any parcel to Legendary with Legendary rent that looks cool. See details at Parcel Upgrade Analysis.

Does Atlas Earth compensate for server downage?

No and I’ll tell you why I think they will not.

Suppose there are 500,000 active accounts.  Atlas Earth gives each person 10 AB for the downtime.  That is 5 million AB given away.

Suppose we were to convert this to parcels at the 2x level.  That would be 5,000,000 / 100 or 50,000 parcels.

How much rent would that produce?  Close to $20,000 per year.  If the app lasts 10 years then Atlas Reality would have given away $200,000 in rent.  For a server outage.

On top of that, they are losing advertising revenue because none of us are running ads while the servers are down.

Badges/VIP titles (Mayor/Governor/President)

What are badges?

Badges are stamps that you purchase based on your current location. There are three types of badges available: Town/City, State, and Country.

Badges increase your passport level, which adds a permanent multiplier to your overall rent separate from the booster. There are six passport levels:

  • Level 0: 0 badges required, no increase
  • Level 1: 1 badge required, 5% increase
  • Level 2: 11 badges required, 10% increase
  • Level 3: 31 badges required, 15% increase
  • Level 4: 61 badges required, 20% increase
  • Level 5: 101 badges required, 25% increase

Each badge costs 200 AB. In terms of the passport, there is no difference between a Town/City, State, or Country badge.

When is the best time to purchase my first badge?

Around 40 parcels. The exact answer is based on rarity distribution, but if you buy it at 40 parcels, you’ll only lose a few cents at most.

If you want to do the math, assign the following values to your rarity distribution:

  • Common: 0.11
  • Rare: 0.16
  • Epic: 0.22
  • Legendary: 0.44

If your total exceeds 6.32, then buy your first badge.

Alternatively, if you plan to vacation/visit somewhere you’ll likely never visit again, then I highly recommend saving your AB to purchase Town/City and State badges along the way.

For those interested in the math behind this conclusion, select The Mathematics Behind Badges and Maximizing Rent.

How do I find badges?

See badge hunting resources in https://atlasearthguides.com/resources/.

How do I request a new town/city for a badge?

All the data comes from Open Street Map, at https://www.openstreetmap.org/. Atlas Earth is working to expand the available towns/cities that are badgable. If you want to submit your town/city, contact support.

The borders aren’t right!

I know, it’s wildly inconsistent! However, there’s little point in complaining about it.

When I reach 150 parcels, is it better to buy parcels or badges?

If you are in the United States, and based on 64 hours SRB per month, and assuming normal rarity distribution and 24/7 boosting, the most optimal strategy is:

  1. Buy parcels to ~40.
  2. Buy 1 badge.
  3. Buy parcels to 150.
  4. Buy badges to 31.
  5. Incremental Tier jumps (220/290/etc.) to 625.
  6. Buy badges to 61.
  7. Incremental tier jumps until 1500 parcels.
  8. Buy badges to 101.
  9. Break 2X tier at 1721 parcels.
  10. Buy more parcels.

However, bear in mind that badges are more difficult to find than parcels. It might be a good idea to prioritize badges over parcels when traveling to places you’ll likely never visit again or for a long time.

For the math behind this optimization strategy, select https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/comments/1argbe5/new_badge_optimization_strategy_based_on_64hour/. Also, check out The Mathematics Behind Badges and Maximizing Rent.

Note: For non-USA (other countries excluded, see below), the same concept applies, but for 60 parcels. However, the most optimal strategy is:

  1. Buy parcels to ~40.
  2. Buy 1 badge.
  3. Buy parcels to 100 with tier jumps and breakeven points in between.
  4. Buy badges to 11 and parcels to 150. Edge goes to parcels first, but little is lost if you do parcels to 150 before badges to 11.
  5. By parcels to 350 with tier jumps in between. You could get to 31 badges at 150 or 220 parcels and still be essentially optimal.
  6. If you haven’t already, buy badges to 31.
  7. Buy parcels to 450 with tier jumps in between.
  8. Buy badges to 61.
  9. If you can get them, buy badges to 101. Otherwise, reach 517 parcels to break into 2X without losing rent.
  10. Buy parcels to 1916.
  11. If you haven’t already, buy badges to 101. Otherwise, continue buying parcels.

For those interested in the math, select https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/comments/1bffr2i/canadian_badge_optimization_strategy_based_on/. The post was originally for Canada but applies to other released countries that are not USA.

For Mexico, it is:

  1. Buy parcels to ~40.
  2. Buy 1 badge.
  3. Buy parcels to 85 with tier jumps and breakeven points in between. Edge goes to parcels when tier jumping to 85.
  4. Buy badges to 101.
  5. Buy parcels by tier jumping.

For those interested in the math, select https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/comments/1e6bkoa/mexican_badge_optimization_strategy_based_on/.

For Germany and France, it is:

  1. Buy parcels to ~40.
  2. Buy 1 badge.
  3. Buy parcels to 70.
  4. Buy 10 more badges.
  5. Buy parcels to 100.
  6. Buy 50 more badges to reach 61.
  7. Buy parcels to 400 by tier jumping.
  8. Buy 40 more badges to reach 101.
  9. Buy 59 more parcels to breakeven into 2X boost.

For those interested in the math, select https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/comments/1fuqnrg/german_and_french_badge_optimization_strategy/.

What is the Mayor/Governor/President?

These are titles earned by owning the most parcels in badgable territories within borders established by Open Street Maps.

Note: For non-USA, localized titles persist (e.g.; Mayor/Premiere/Prime Minister, etc.).

How to I become Mayor/Governor/President?

You can earn the Mayor title by owning the most parcels in a Town/City. Similarly, the Governor is for the most parcels in a State and President for the United States.

Note: Note: For non-USA, localized titles persist (e.g.; Mayor/Premiere/Prime Minister, etc.).

What do I get for these titles?

You earn 20 AB for each badge purchased in territories to which you own the title. However, Governors do not receive AB for Cities/Towns to which they are not the Mayor nor does the Presdident receive AB for Cities/Towns or States to which they are not the Mayor or the Governor.

AB is paid out at around 12:00 AM UTC.

Can I purchase a badge in a territory to which I am Mayor/Governor/President and earn credit?

Yes! However, once you obtained the title, wait until after 12:00 AM UTC to purchase the badge. This ensures that you receive the AB and not the previous Mayor/Governor/President.

Note: Note: For non-USA, localized titles persist (e.g.; Mayor/Premiere/Prime Minister).

Can I be a Mayor/Governor in multiple territories?

Yes!

Note: Note: For non-USA, localized titles persist (e.g.; Mayor/Premiere).

Can I purchase badges while flying?

You can! However, you must use the airline’s internet connection to play Atlas Earth while flying. If you attempt this, you must complete all these actions within a town/city/state to successfully buy a badge:

  1. Open the badge shop to visually see the badge.
  2. Purchase the badge.
  3. Receive the confirmation screen that you acquired the badge.

If you fail on any of these steps, you’ll receive an error message and will be unable to purchase the badge. This works better for larger cities and states; However, you will likely not have enough time to grab smaller towns and cities to complete the process.

Investing/Reinvesting and Cashing Out

Is it worth investing/reinvesting money into this app?

First, purchasing AB for parcels is not an investment.

Second, unlike in other investment scenarios, you cannot sell your property directly for USD nor can you sell AB or diamonds for USD. The only way to get USD is through rent.

Third, that depends on your goal. if your goal is to:

  • Buy parcels and collect rent, without interacting with the app: It will take longer than a lifetime to get your money back.
  • Start the app with a few parcels to incentivize you to keep going: Refer to the opportunity cost link, below, for time horizon (in years) to get your money back.
  • Make more money than playing free to play: In almost all cases, you won’t beat the person who didn’t put any money into this game and cashes out everything. However, if you reinvest to 2,000 parcels and continue to buy a plot of land each day, and remain boosted 24/7/365, it will take you ~17 years to beat a free-to-play (FTP) person. Aside from this, I have not discovered a scenario where direct purchasing wins against FTP.

If you want to know how long it will take you to get your money back, see Opportunity Cost Breakdown For Purchasing Atlas Bucks.

How do I cash out?

  1. Select your rent at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Redeem now at the bottom.
  3. Select Redeem now at the top.
  4. Enter an amount. Minimum $5. Up to $12 is instantaneous after your first few cash outs. Amounts after $12 are manually reviewed.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Select Get Cash. Crypto and Stocks are currently unavailable.
  7. Select Confirm. It will text you a code.
  8. If you are using the same phone that you receive a text, your number was likely automatically entered. Otherwise, manually enter the code.
  9. Select OK.
  10. Select Redeem [Dollar amount selected].
  11. Select an option.
  12. Follow the prompts.

Minigame Events

What else can I do on this app?

Atlas Reality is working on creating minigames so that users can interact with the app more and have more opportunities to earn AB. At the moment, racer, fishing, golf, warship, and bowling are the only minigames available.

If you access the “events’ tab on the app, this will show when the next event will be available.

What is racer?

Racer is a weekly/biweekly event where players race each other to compete for AB.

How long does racer last?

One two hours. The first few events were 8-10 hours long. Most others have been two hours. Some have been one hour. However, this may change in the future.

How much does racer cost?

Each race costs 2 AB. You’ll want to save 175-200 AB per hour if you wish to participate the entire time. However, you may want to consider saving more in case Atlas Reality decides to do longer events. Bear in mind that most people lose AB when racing. However, some people don’t care and race for fun.

How do I play racer?

When racer begins, you’ll see the “racer” icon follow you around. Select the icon, then select the button at the bottom of the screen to begin a race. It will randomly match you with a player (usually someone with a similar number of wins as you). Hold the shift button during the countdown to boost. After that, press the shift button to change gears. You can change gears four times during a race.

What is Mulligan?

Mulligan is available to people who lose their match. You can run an ad for a chance to win 1, 2, or 3 AB. There’s a bit of a delay between stopping the needle and when the needle actually stops. Just like in racer, lag is a major factor that determines your result. However, lag tends to clear up after the first hour.

New Features

When will [insert feature] be released?

See the Atlas Earth roadmap at https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasEarthOfficial/wiki/roadmap/.

Most likely, next year, regardless of what the current year is. Though we might see a release of a feature this year. The only exception is expanding into other countries. Those will likely happen within 30 to 60 days, if not less.

No-no’s

Can I have multiple accounts?

You can if you want! But, it’s against the Terms of Service. See https://legal.atlasreality.com/content/earth/terms-of-service.html.

Can multiple people have an account in the same household?

Yes! However, each person can only have one account per device.

Can I have an account on each of my devices?

This is grey territory. You can try it if you want, but don’t be surprised if you’re banned for it.

But I promise it’s just for referral AB!

Again, you can if you want. However, I won’t be held responsible if you’re banned.

Can I spoof my location?

What’s up with all these “can” questions? You can do whatever floats your boat. The right question is, “Is it against the rules to spoof your location?” The answer to that question is, yes it is.

I appreciate the guide on Atlas Earth as it’s very informational. Being a new user that downloaded in the last 1-2 weeks, in your personal opinion do you think it’s even worth it to alocate time to this app if i won’t see a return for 5+ years or more?

That’s the struggle i see. I like the idea of gaining some money through playing a game (that has little incentive to log in everyday or keep interest) but i would love to hear the opinion of someone more veteran.

Please let me know your thoughts and cheers

      Dylan,

I personally think it’s worth the grind to reach 150 parcels and 11 badges, especially if you do it the f2p route. This will give you around $22 to $24 per month, provided that you keep up with your boosts and we continue to get 64 hours Super Rent Boost per month. Beyond that, the returns fall off in terms of time vs. reward.

I enjoy it, so I’ve been pushing through all the small gains and now enjoy 2X for any future parcels I purchase until the app dies. I’m also a veteran minigamer, which has catipulted my future earnings each month. But…I understand if you want to get the most gain for the least effort. 150 parcels + 11 badges is your best route for that, with no money spent.
